The Menu

Guangzhou or Cantonese food is the best in China. Don’t believe me? Ask the Chinese themselves! There is an old poem in China that goes “Be born in Suzhou, live in Hangzhou, eat in Guangzhou and die in Luzhou.

Why?

Because Suzhou produces the most beautiful women in China, Hangzhou makes the finest silk, the kitchens in Guangzhou cook the best dishes and Luzhou produces the best wood for making noble coffins.

We at Dragon Castle try to perpetuate the great Guangzhou traditions of taste, texture, variety and freshness in the food we produce. However we tilt our hat to changing times by bringing in new approaches to food and cooking – especially prominent in the specials on offer. But Darwinism does exist in cooking, the best dishes adapt and change in minuscule ways, surviving and thriving while some old dinosaurs that do not change wilt to become extinct bones. Also do not for a moment think that we would not have DIM SUM on offer with all its variety, delicacy and constant invention driving it on.

The natural Chinese WAY of dinning is to order a good variety of starters or mains to be placed in the middle of the table within reach for all diners for each to partake a little of their choice and a SHARING of the meal. It’s a unity thing!!

But remember, there is no rule in eating at Dragon Castle but one –

Choose and Eat What You LIKE!!!

If you are a party of around ten, try to select from our SET MENUS, that way you will enjoy the most important thing as a group, i.e. EATING TOGETHER.

DIM SUM  點心

In ancient times, travelers on the myriad trade routes through China would look to stop at roadside teahouses for refreshments. Nothing extremely grandiose just tea 茶 and a snack, now generically known as dim sum 點心 and then they would be on their way.

The dim sums with seafood must definitely originate as Guangzhou originals, but the rest are claimed by every nook and corner in China. Dragon Castle is proud of its dim sum and deservedly so. We make everything ourselves from the choicest ingredients and cook them carefully to perfection. Our dim sum is definitely a touch of class.

Our menu has most of the classics and is supplemented by our chef’s specials which are always something completely new!!!

Wines and Alcoholic beverages   酒

Enjoying alcoholic beverages is an important part of Chinese dining culture otherwise why would there be a toast such as Gan Pei literally meaning Dry the Cup encouraging you to drink up! The Chinese have always enjoyed a good drink up with their meals and generally believes in the positive medicinal effects of wine in moderation.

It is untrue that the only wine that will complement a Chinese meal is white and light. It might have been true when the Chinese food produced in Europe during the old days were unsophisticated, not particularly authentic and full of soy. At Dragon Castle, we utilise well tried and tested cooking methods from a long traditional heritage and then where possible use local ingredients to produce dishes that can be complemented by any wine.

So confident are we that the food we produce will stand up to any test that we have not selected bland, safe, popular wines for our wine lists but have instead searched around the world choosing some particularly good, sensuous, robust, characteristics full wines from the New World with some traditional, complicated, fine and exclusive bottles from the Old. If you are having a party, ask for a magnum or a jeroboam – the wine is better and it’s quite a special and different experience, pouring from a large bottle.

For those who find wine too rich, we also stock a good selection of lagers from the Far East, draught Sun-Lik from Hong Kong, Tiger Beer from Singapore, Cobra from Indian influences and Tsing Tao from the German founded brewery in China.
